babynamer

the short version

Privacy policy

Last updated October 16, 2026

babynamer has no accounts and no sign-up, and it's paid for by ads from Google. The names you search and your own names in Parent Blend stay in your browser. We don't see them, and neither do advertisers. The one thing we learn is which names get starred, without knowing who starred them, to show the most-starred names.

Who runs babynamer

babynamer.me is a hobby project run by [your name], in the Netherlands. For anything about your privacy, email hello@babynamer.me.

What stays on your device

To remember your choices between visits, the site saves a few small things in your browser's local storage:

Apart from the star counts below, this data is never sent to us or to anyone else. You can delete it at any time with Clear shortlist, or by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. Your answer to the cookie question below is saved the same way.

The shortlist code you can send to a partner is made in your browser from the names on your list. It goes wherever you choose to send it, and it never passes through our servers.

Star counts

The home page lists the names people star most. When you star a name, your browser sends us that name and a random code it made for this, so each browser counts once per name; when you remove the star, the count goes down again. We store only the code and the names starred with it. The code isn't linked to your IP address, an account or anything else about you, and nothing else on your shortlist is sent. To take your stars off the counts, remove them from your shortlist.

What our servers see

Like every website, our host receives the technical details your browser sends when it loads a page: your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. babynamer is hosted by Cloudflare, which uses these to deliver the site quickly and protect it from attacks, and keeps them only for a limited period. We don't use them to identify you. Cloudflare's privacy policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Visitor statistics and cookies

On your first visit we ask whether we may count your visit with Google Analytics. Only if you say yes does Google Analytics load and set its cookies (_ga and _ga_…, which last up to two years). If you say no, or don't answer, nothing is loaded and no cookies are set.

With your OK, Google Analytics tells us things like which pages are opened, how people arrived, roughly which country and city they're in and what kind of device they use. It doesn't log or store full IP addresses. Google processes this for us under its data processing terms, and the data may be handled in the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. We don't use it for advertising and don't combine it with anything else. Google's own policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

You can change your mind at any time: change your cookie choice.

Advertising

babynamer is free because it shows ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technology to show ads, to limit how often you see the same one, and to measure how well they work. With your permission they may also use your visits to this and other sites to show ads that match your interests.

If you're in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, Google asks for your choice before using cookies for ads. If you say no, you may still see ads that aren't based on your interests. Elsewhere, you can turn off personalized ads in Google's ad settings or at aboutads.info. Google explains how it uses information from sites like ours at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Fonts and other outside services

Everything the site needs, including its fonts and the names list, is served from babynamer.me itself. Apart from Google's ads and, when you've agreed to it, Google Analytics, pages don't load anything from Google or from social networks.

Your rights

We hold very little about you: short-lived server logs, anonymous star counts and, if you agreed, Google Analytics statistics that aren't tied to your name. You still have every right the law gives you, including under the UK and EU GDPR and US state privacy laws such as California's: to ask what we hold, to have it corrected or deleted, and to complain to your data protection authority (ours is the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens). Email hello@babynamer.me and we'll reply within 30 days.

We don't sell personal information. The only use of your data for advertising is the Google ad cookies described above, which you can refuse or turn off.

Children

babynamer is meant for parents and parents-to-be. It isn't aimed at children and doesn't knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version goes on this page with a new date at the top.
