Using babynamer

babynamer is free to use for finding a name for your own child, or out of curiosity. Please don't copy the names database in bulk, scrape the site, or use it to build a competing service, and don't do anything that disrupts the site for others.

Meanings, origins and popularity

We research every meaning and origin with care, but name meanings are often debated, and many names have more than one history. Meanings marked as debated are especially uncertain. Popularity figures come from official statistics that are a year or more old. Everything on the site is for information and inspiration. Please check anything that matters to you, such as a name's meaning in a particular language or faith, with a source you trust.

Names suggested by Parent Blend, Name Weave and our other tools are made by automatic matching. They can be unusual, and some may have meanings or associations we didn't foresee.

Your choice is yours

Choosing and registering your child's name is up to you. Some countries have rules about which names can be registered. We aren't responsible for that decision or its consequences.

Our content and other people's

The site's design, code, text and curated meanings belong to us. Birth statistics come from the government offices and other sources listed at the foot of every page, under their own licenses. Most-popular lists from Wikipedia are used under CC BY-SA 4.0. Characters from TV, film, books, anime and games belong to their creators. We mention them only to show where a name appears.

No warranty

The site is provided “as is”. We don't promise that it will always be available, free of errors, or that any information on it is complete or correct.

Limit of liability

As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for any loss that comes from using babynamer or relying on what it shows. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be limited by law.
